Art 2 Syllabus

Pre-requisite: Passing grade in Art 1
Course Description:
Art 2 is designed for students with a background in Art. This course reinforces basic foundation in visual arts concepts and gives a practical experience in the production of artwork in various media. However, this is NOT just a studio course. Other content areas will be addressed such as: art criticism, art history, and aesthetics. Major artists, periods, and styles will be studied; written assignments and discussions will accompany most of the projects. Criteria for critically assessing a variety of products and making informed choices will also be explored. Students are expected to give 100% on every assignment, as this is an advanced course.

A= 100-93%
B= 92-85%
C= 84-77%
D= 76-70%
F= Below a 70%
Assignment weight:
Each Quarter is worth 40%
Final: 20%
If you are absent, you have 5 days upon your return to make up all warmups, assignments, tests, etc. that you missed.
Attendance & Tardy
Upon your return you will need a note. Students leaving school early will need a yellow slip from the Attendance Office or a call from them.
Tardies and Minor Behavior Issues:
Major issues will result in a referral.
5 or more UNEXCUSED absences will result in a FAILURE of the course.

Major Projects:
Due dates are approximate. When 3-4 students finish a project, I will set a due date. That date is when ALL work in class will be stopped. You then have two weeks to take it home or to finish it on your own time. After those two weeks are over, YOU must petition and explain to me why you need more time; however, you will not be given regular class time. If YOU do not talk to me about your goals for completion after the two weeks- I will deduct 5% per day every day late.
Minor Assignments/Bellwork/Etc:
Unless you have an excused absence, all work will get 5% per day every day late. For absences, when you return - you will have 5 days to make up and turn in missing work.
Missing Work:
If work is never turned in, it is a ZERO.

Tablets are to be used for:
Students in violation of this rule will have their phones/electronic devices turned into the main office where they need to be picked up by a parent.
Extra Credit:
Materials needed for Art 2:
The art syllabus must be signed and dated by a parent or guardian and the student and turned in for 5 points. This process will ensure that the student and parent or guardian will have a clear understanding of what the objectives, expectations, and assessment tools are for this course.

Extra Credit:
- Cleaning the classroom above and beyond what is required
- Visiting an Art Museum. Bring proof and a written report
- Donating the following materials:
- Magazines!!!!
- Hand Soap
- Paper Towels
- Office Supplies (Tape, Staples, Dry Erase Markers, Copy Paper, etc.)
- Cleaning supplies (Sponges, Rags)
- Art Supplies (Pencils, Erasers, Glue, Glue sticks, rulers, tools, tissue paper, newspaper, etc.)
- Tissues
Materials needed for Art 2:
- Sketchbook - at least 8.5x11" with 70 pages, spiral bound
- Can be found at Walmart, office supply stores, craft stores, and sometimes at Big Lots
- Pack of Pencils
