Shoe Drawing
Students will discover various drawing techniques.
Goal: Maintain an intense level of observation
Product: (Major Assignment): A drawing that uses value and contour to accurately represent a shoe.
Process: Complete Assignments #1 & #2 in Sketchbook. Complete Major Assignment.
Tips:
Make careful observations of each subject.
Look at the subject more than your paper. Draw what you see not what you think is there.
Don't talk. Talking looses focus.
Move away from others - less distractions.
Start with an HB #2 pencil to draw the contours
Use 4B and 6B to add value
**Sketchbook Assignment #1: - Minor Assignment (10 pts)
~Assignments Section:
Contour - definition: The drawing of an object as though the drawing tool is moving along all of the edges, ridges, and lines of a form. Pencil does not come off paper.
Example: (show an example of a contour drawing)
Blind Contour - definition: The drawing of an object as though the drawing tool is moving along all of the edges, ridges, and lines of a form. Pencil does not come off paper and you cannot look at the drawing till you are finished.

Cross Contour - definition: A Contour drawing that contains parallel lines that run across the form.
Example: (show an example of a cross-contour drawing)
Negative Space - definition: The space that surrounds an object. It defines the boundaries of positive space (the form) and the area around it.

Gesture Drawing - definition: A very quick drawing where the pencil does not come off the paper. Also known as a scribble drawing.

Erasure Drawing - definition: A drawing done with an eraser. Also known as a subtractive drawing (subtract value)

Value - Definition: the lightness or darkness of a color. The dark and light greys, blacks, whites in a drawing.
Example: (not a drawing with value - not a value scale)
Value Scale - definition: the gradual movement from black to grey to white.
Example: (show an example of a smooth value scale)

#5: Draw an "object of your choice in the room - Contour"
#6: Draw "two or more objects together from the room. - Cross-Contour"
#7: Draw all items from slideshow on one page. Overlap if you need to. - "Gesture"
#8: Draw a different "two objects from the room - Contour & Value"
#9: Draw your shoe by erasing. "Shoe - erasure"

Media: Graphite (Pencils)
Draw your shoes (at least 2 - can bring in other shoes) using contour, gesture, and value. Shoes should have a full range of value and details. Shoes should show form (3D-ness). Create a new assignment page on your weebly when finished.
