Surrealism in Perspective
Students will discover how to create a surrealist room using 1 point perspective
Goal: Maintain an intense level of observation
Product: (Major Assignment): A drawing that uses value, and tone to accurately represent a room with a surrealist theme.
Tips:
Sketch everything lightly first - you will be erasing a lot
The crazier the idea - the better

Put the following vocabulary words and definitions in your sketchbook.

Practice drawing a complete room (with furniture and details) in your sketchbook.
Juxtaposition: Putting symbols together for comparison and contrast, creating new meaning.
Recontextualization: Taking one symbol and putting it in a different setting/context.
Appropriation: Taking another person's composition and changing it to make it your own.
**Surrealist Room - Major Assignment (100 pts)
Paper: 11x14
Media: Pencils and use value OR Color pencils and use value
Take a look at the famous pieces in class to find out how other artists have used 1 point perspective and surrealism through history. Begin sketching out your room and adding surrealist elements.
Requirements:
1 point perspective room
At least 3 surrealist elements
Value - Pencil
(or)
Color/Value - Color Pencil
Ideas:
Add a strange animal
Add an animal/creature that doesn't exist
Include a portal/window to another world or dimension
Include solids that act like liquids
Make things defy gravity
Make paths to nowhere
Have something that turns into something else
Bring items into your room that wouldn't normally be in a room
Change the size of things
Have things that would be impossible in real life
Don't forget to take pictures as you go along for your weebly!
